The birthday gift for St. George Greek Orthodox Church doesn't come with a bow. Instead, it's decorated with a scarlet and gold rug, stained-glass windows and a pair of stone columns.
Timed with its 60th-anniversary celebration this weekend, the church will dedicate its new narthex, or entryway, tomorrow in a communitywide celebration.
The narthex features a new tiled floor, a curved, sky-painted ceiling and four stained glass windows depicting four apostles. The project was funded largely through a $125,000 donation left by Centerville parishioner Marius Dimitrakis upon his death in 2006.
